Paul Williams is a business owner whose core values and skills are rooted in the soil and lakes of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Reared the second child of the six children of Thesola and Gaston Williams in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Paul fondly recalls visiting his grandparents in rural Arkansas and counts summers of playing with farm animals and riding horses until sundown as an important part of his formation. His parents valued higher education and he knew that he would matriculate with his siblings at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Paul worked hard and graduated early from UAPB with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1976. Following graduation, he was recruited to work at the University and served as the Director of Work Study Programs for two years.
Paul moved to Atlanta, Georgia, eventually joining The Equitable as an insurance and financial planning professional. He married Janice Patrick in 1983. Paul went on to spend fifteen years there, becoming a district manager and continuing to enjoy extraordinary sales success.
He became a Wendy’s franchisee in December 1994, growing one store at a time to a total of six stores in Atlanta, Georgia. His six Georgia restaurants continue to enjoy profitable operations. From December 2009 to November 2013, Paul operated Bach Auto Group doing business as Payless Car Rental franchise at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. In 2013, Avis Budget Group purchased Payless Car Rental System and bought out all of its franchisees, converting those locations back to corporate stores. His latest venture is a new restaurant startup which opened October 2014, Sweet Auburn Seafood, in the downtown Auburn Avenue district of Atlanta.
Employing a staff of more than 200, Paul strives to provide a high quality experience for his staff, his customers and the community. Part of that commitment is shown in his support to local community endeavors, including Brown Middle; McEachern; Osborne; Mays; Douglas County and Westlake High Schools. His company provides support for local ball teams; space and water for car washes conducted by youth groups and other on-site requests. Also, he supports the Fraternal Order of Police’s Shop with a Cop program and the Westlake Magnet program’s foreign study program. He also ensures that local youth are hired for the summer. Paul’s civic memberships have included 100 Black Men;
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; First Congregational Church and other business organizations. Among his honors, he was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff in 2011.
He is married to Janice Patrick Williams and is very proud of their three young adult children. Paul Jr. and Patrick are MBA program graduates from Clark Atlanta University and Coastal Carolina University respectively, now working in the family business; and Janice A’Leah, has a Masters degree in Social work and Child Development from Clark Atlanta University and works for the City of Atlanta Public Schools.
